Dr. Lawaczeck received his medical training in Germany and in the United States. He is a board certified, fellowship trained comprehensive ophthalmologist subspecializing in diseases and surgery of the retina.  He has been in private practice in Birmingham since 1966.  He is an emeritus clinical professor of ophthalmology at the University of Alabama.  He is a lifetime member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association. He has served as director for the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology for many years.  At the present, he restricts his practice to consultations and medical and laser treatment of a wide range of diseases with particular attention to macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
